Anyone find the Cardinals punting on Pham extremely curious? I know they have OF depth but still...for that return on a pre-arb player?

His career line is .271/.365/.463 (.828 OPS) and he looks a lot more like that player than the .306/.411/.520 (.931 OPS) he put up in 2017.

I'll take the over on his current stat line, looking at his batted ball data.

Right ... but isn't that a pretty good CFer? 800+ OPS CFers w/ OBP north of 350 don't grow on trees. I'd think this probably boils down to a numbers game, with Ozuna 3 years younger, Fowler really struggling and O'Neil crushing AAA they needed to make room some way. Clubhouse issues could be at play too, but I think this is more about opening up PT for Bader & O'Neil.

Also, Pham goes to arbitration this winter. Given this year's results vs. the career number, the Cardinals are probably just not willing to pay what they think he'll ask for/get, which makes sense again given what they have to pay the other guys + having O'Neil and Bader around.

Would have been a perfect fit for the Indians. RH CF who’s shown he can hit and under control for a couple more years...for that return? Sign me up. Would much rather have Pham than Martin going forward (Martin is still an upgrade...granted most anything would have been an upgrade).

I drafted Pham with a 9th rounder. Kept him for a second year and then cut him after 2012. He was injury prone and it seemed unlikely he'd ever get a real shot. The Cards always have like nine OF candidates, it seems like.
